We met on the way to our basic training in Fort Lewis, Washington. We immediately formed a strong friendship. We completed basic training and were both sent to Advanced Infantry Training at Tigerland in Fort Polk, Louisiana. After AIT we went home and met each other's families. We flew to San Francisco together and then onto Cu Chi, South Vietnam. It was there that we were separated for the first time since entering the Army. Mike was assigned to A Company, 1/27 Infantry, and I was sent to A Company 2/27 Infantry. When my wife and I visited "The Wall", I etched your name onto a piece of paper from panel 35E-line 48. That piece of paper is framed and hanging on my shrine at home, next to the picture of us. You, my friend, and the ultimate sacrifice you made will never be forgotten.
