Bill Sandefur was my father. He was killed in Quang Tin exactly one week before I was born. I was adopted shortly after my birth and I don't think he knew that I was coming. I know that my father was a First Lieutenant and an Infantry Unit Commander. The local paper said the he died a hero, trying to rescue another surrounded unit without endangering his own unit. But no one really knows what happened that day except for the men he was with. Someday I would love to hear from those men. I would love to honor my father's memory with more than a sketchy tribute. I want my father to know that even though he didn't know about me, he has always been a presence in my life and that someday I will get to know him better.

From his daughter,
