I first met Doug Seeley at Hurlburt AFF, Florida. We were both in O-2A training prior to our deployment to Southeast Asia. Doug and his wife Paula were staying at the same apartment building, across the hall. My wife was expecting our second child at the time, and Doug often baby sat with our one-year old son Matthew when my wife and Paula went shopping while I was flying. We socialized with them during those three months. Doug was a very caring person who treated Paula like a queen and my wife and I like family.

I was serving in Korea when I read in the Stars and Stripes that he had been listed as KIA.

After my tour, I returned to Robins AFB, Georgia. Next to the base was the city of Warner Robins, home of Doug's widow Paula's family. My wife and I resumed our friendship with Paula, who never remarried, and we remain close friends today, vacationing with her every summer at the beach. She has never completely recovered from the loss of her one true love in life and has gone through several agonizing periods while our goverment attempts to find and recover any remains, since his body had never been found.

I too think about his kindness, professionalism as a pilot, and the life that could have been.

I hope they find him eventually and bring him home.
