My mother and sister went to visit Michael during training at Parris Island. They met a good friend of Michael's and have home movies of Michael and this friend. We have lost contact with him and would love to hear from him. Please contact Judi at imjeritaxi@aol.com   Our brother Michael was born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, but lived for a few years in Atglen, PA, before going into the service. He was engaged to a girl from Parkesburg, Beverly Taylor, when he was killed in Vietnam in August 1969. She wrote this poem for Michael: CHILDHOOD ENDING Bicycles down the back alley brushed burned hands and knees. Secret forts in the woods almost burned down. Summer birthday parties a foot in the cake. Throwing stones and running away with friends. Almost missed the school bus with a guy I wouldn't talk to. Sledding down around the turn walking back, turning blue. Boy next door First date, first kiss, scared to death. Lockers in the hallway Spanish class disaster. High school prom and Christmas ball, New true love and graduation. Dead on battlefield in Vietnam, My childhood now has ended. Beverly We miss you a lot, our brother... The following article appeared in the Daily Local News, West Chester, PA, on 08-19-69: An 18-year-old Marine, son of an Atglen family, died August 10 while on patrol near Vandergrift Marine Base, Vietnam. PFC Michael F. Sheridan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin M. Sheridan of 427 Rosemont Ave., Atglen, was killed by an enemy mortar barrage. He was sent to Vietnam June 1 after serving in Cuba. PFC Sheridan entered the Marine Corps in May of 1968 after attending Octorara Area High School. He received his basic training at Parris Island, SC, and was transferred to Camp Lejeune, NC. A native of Coatesville (PA), he lived in the steel city until four years ago, when his family moved to Atglen. Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Judy, Shirley and Elaine Sheridan; a brother, Frank, and a foster-sister, Mary Ann Bristow, all at home: also his grandmothers, Mrs. Norma Sheridan, of W. Notes from The Virtual Wall Note During the summer of 1969 the North Vietnamese Army made repeated attempts to drive Allied forces from the heights of Mutter's Ridge, which formed a portion of the southern boundary of the DMZ. On 10 August Echo Company, 2/3 Marines, lost at least 17 men in heavy fighting near Hill 484. PFC Michael Sheridan was one of the Marines who died that day. He, and the other men who died during the Mutter's Ridge battles of 10 August and 17/18 September, are listed on the The Virtual Wall's Mutter's Ridge Memorial
