Joe and his wife, Cindy, were in OCS with us... My husband told me about Joe's demise when we met for R&R in March of 1972. Joe and Cindy were such fun and we enjoyed their company. Joe was always trying to be the best and Ron and he had an ongoing feud on who was! I was told Cindy remarried later but if anyone ever hears from her tell her I send my best. I became a widow in June 1972, Ron also was killed in Nam. The two different stories I heard about Joe's death is different than what Ron told me ... To all who graduated from OCS in Fort Benning and Flight school from Fort Walters and Fort Rucker - peace.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

1LT Joseph Slifka was the only American casualty resulting from a helicopter crash in a river some 28 kilometers north of Kham Duc. The only known US helo loss in the area was UH-1H tail number 69-15083 from the 116th AHC, but there is no confirming evidence that 1LT Slifka was aboard 69-15083 - he may have been aboard a Vietnamese helo.
