SP4 ELZIE SANDERS Jr

20 Mar 2003

When I think of you I remember the way you enjoyed life. The laughter you brought, the happiness you shared with everyone around you - everything seemed so much brighter when you were around and you were my hero as well as big brother. I will always miss you until God calls me home. Until then, I am thankful for all the wonderful memories I have of our childhood.

Elzie, my dad Captain Charles A. Springer was your commanding officer with Bravo Co, 2/27th Wolfhounds. He was killed in action that same fateful day on November 12, 1967 in the same fire fight. My Dad spoke of you and his men in all his letters home and was so very proud of all of you.

I was only seven when you both were killed and I was then and still remain so very proud of my Dad and all of you that paid such a price for our freedom. Thank You.

From the son of Elzie's commanding officer,
Charles Phillip Springer
