A Note from The Virtual Wall

The 446th Transportation Company was a medium truck company stationed at Long Binh, where it was part of the 7th Transporation Battalion. In the early part of 1968 the Company was transferred to Quang Tri Province in northernmost South Vietnam, and in March 1968 it was under operational control of the Marines' Force Logistical Support Group Bravo at Dong Ha.

The FLSG Bravo Command Chronology for March 1968 contains the following entry:

"08 Mar 66 - Approximately 50 rounds incoming enemy rockets and artillery. ... 446th Transportation Company, U. S. Army, received following casualties and damage: 9 - KIA, 12 - WIA, ..."
The Virtual Wall can identify eight of the nine men who died in the barrage, all from the 446th TC:
  • SP5 Marvin N. Richardson, Independence, MO
  • SGT James P. Singleton, Abingdon, VA
  • SP5 Harold E. Walker, Auburn, ME
  • SP4 Clement B. Gruber, St George, SC
  • SP4 John E. Severson, Winnebago, MN
  • PFC Elvin L. Allen, Kansas City, MO
  • PFC William T. Puffenbarger, Oakland, CA
  • PFC David M. Reynolds, Wayne, OK
Two other soldiers were ground casualties in Quang Tri on 08 May:
  • SP4 Larry R. Redmon, Salvisa, KY, assigned to the 625th S&S Company. The 625th was stationed at LZ Sharon just outside Quang Tri City, some 25 miles from Dong Ha.
  • PFC Eduardo Jimenez, Humboldt, KS, assigned to the 585th Transportation Company, another medium truck outfit working out of Phu Bai, near Hue.
It seems certain that either SP4 Redmon or PFC Jimenez - or perhaps both - was killed at Dong Ha, but The Virtual Wall cannot say with certainty who the ninth man was.
