SP4 JOHN JUNIOR SEXTON

30 Oct 2003

My brother John Junior Sexton was 26 years old when he died. He was raised in a small town called Independence, Kentucky. He left behind my mother, Hazel Marie Sexton Wilson Weil, and a wonderful stepfather, Herbert Weil. His little girl was 3 years old . . . he would have been a great grandfather by now.

He was visiting my grandma in Groveport, Ohio, when he went in the service. By mistake they listed him from there, but he was a Kentucky boy, born in Evarts, Harlan County, Kentucky - coal miner country. He was coming home to see me graduate high school in May 1969. When he died his battalion sent him two wreaths of flowers to place on his grave. They shipped him from Vietnam to Japan to Washington to Arland Army Hospital at Fort Knox . . . he died the next morning. My mother never got over his death - she died not knowing her son's name was honored on the Vietnam Wall.

To my brother I say

"Well, proud of you, brother. You'll always be in our hearts and prayers. How proud you'd be if you could see your name on the beautiful Wall."

Rest in peace - you came home to old Kentucky at last, resting in the soil of the state you loved.

Love from
your sisters
Susie, Norma, and Edith
and your brother
Bobby
