02 Jun 2005 Memorial Day 2005 - It has been almost 40 years since my cousin was killed in Vietnam. I have not forgotten him. Although it has been a long time I have very fond memories of him. I have been wanting to write this memorial for Federico for the longest time, but I could not find the courage to do it, but I believe it's time as he does deserve it. Federico and I were of the same age and I remember we used to play together when we were young. He lived in San Bernardino and I lived in Arizona, however every time we traveled to California we would stop and visit Federico's parents, brothers and sisters and just have a grand old time. For those of you who never met Federico, I want you to know that you could not have met a more loving and wonderful human being. I remember going to the movies with him and him picking out the best seats in the house for us to watch the movie. He always had a big smile on his face and just greeted you with a lot of love. A Note from The Virtual Wall On 18 December 1965 the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines and 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines were engaged in Operation HARVEST MOON in Quang Nam Province. The 2/7 Marines were moving toward the hamlet of Ky Phu in a battalion column march. At about 1300 both the head and the tail of the column began receiving heavy mortar and automatic weapons fire. The 2/7 Marines deployed and assaulted the enemy, who were well dug in and apparently planned to stay and fight it out. It took the Marines four hours of heavy fighting to eject the 80th VC Battalion from Ky Phu; when the VC withdrew they left 105 bodies and numerous weapons on the battlefield.
