Mike was unique. He was a natural born Hawaiian. he had a good sense of humor, but he always mentioned he was going to die. He enjoyed music and would have been my best man at my wedding. But he had his orders to Parris Island. He wanted to save his leave to see his family one more time. He knew and yet he went willingly and happily forward with where his life was going. This man is a hero. It is just we would like to see some age on our heros, not just 20 years of age. Mike, I'll never forget you.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

In May and June of 1968 the 7th Marines were running Operation MAMELUKE THRUST in the area southwest of Danang. The 1st Bn, 7th Marines' After Action Report contains the following entry:
"D+16 4 June 1968: ... Night positions were established with Company L on Objective 1 and 1/7 Command Group, Company B and Company A on Hill 1062. At 2035H [8:35 pm] Company B's perimeter received numerous frag and concussion grenades and a heavy volume of small arms fire. Company B returned fire on the enemy and a sporadic fire fight continued for almost 45 minutes. Friendly casualties were 6 KIA, 21 WIA (evac) and 2 WIA (minor). A search of the area revealed 7 enemy KIA in green utilities... The enemy unit was identified as part of the T-3 Sapper Battalion..."
