I did not know Joseph. I'm sure we were related. My father's name was Joseph Mason Sumpter, born 29 November 1904 in Nancy, Pulaski County, Kentucky. I'm James Lee Sumpter, son of Joseph. I also was born in Nancy. I would like to hear from Joseph's family.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

The 11th Engineer Battalion's Command Chronology for September 1967 contains the following entry:
"9 Sept 1967: At 0945H, "D" Company's sweep team was ambushed on Route 1, YD215725 by small arms, mortar, and hand grenades. This action resulted in 3 KIAs and 7 WIAs to the sweep team plus 1 KIA and 3 WIAs on the Army's supporting truck mounted quad 50 machine gun."
