NENO

We came from a small town and were friends from the first day of school, along with his twin brother who passed away when we were Seniors (1965) in High School.

After graduation a bunch of us decided to take the plunge. Two went USAF, two went Navy and Neno wanted to be a Marine. He failed his physical twice but was determined to get in.

Next thing I knew we were in Nam together. And because of that I couldn't make it to his funeral, but he'll always be in my heart.

ALWAYS A FRIEND,

I met Magdalano Tarango's niece in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where she teaches Pre-K. Being a combat veteran of Vietnam myself, I became fascinated that she was so proud of his service, in spite of the fact that she wasn't born until 1965, two years before his death. Isn't it interesting that only those affected by a veteran's death, are immediate family, and friends. She also told me that they named a school after him in his home town, in spite of the prejudice his family was subjected to in his community.

God bless and keep you, Magdaleno, and may you know everlasting peace.
