Clarence grew up in Sweetwater, Texas and was a 1967 graduate of Sweetwater High School. He enlisted in the Army after high school and was trained as a crew chief and also in helicopter maintenance. He was killed on January 14, 1970 when the helo he was the crew chief was shot down. He is remembered by his community and by the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Midland, Texas.
