SP4 Noe Tamez started his tour of Vietnam in December 22, 1968. On June 9, 1969, he received wounds while a passenger on a military vehicle on a combat operation when the area came under rocket attack by a hostile force. He was admitted to the 71st Evacuation Hospital in Pleiku, South Vietnam. He was placed on the Very Seriously Ill (VSI) list and died from his wounds on June 17, 1969.

SP4 Noe Tamez is buried in Calvary Hill Cemetery, Dallas, Texas, Section N-2, along with his mother Guadalupe Ocanas Tamez (August 13, 1912 - April 12, 1977) and father Moises Tamez, Sr (April 15, 1908 - August 9, 1981)
