21 Jun 2004 Dear Stanley, I wish to thank you for taking the flight that my Grandfather was scheduled to fly. By taking his flight he was able to be alive now and I now have my Grandpa. I would very much like to thank you, because you don't know how much he means to me. This year he took me to D.C. to go on the Rolling Thunder ride for the Vets. It was a very difficult experience to go to the Wall at night and see all of the letters and personal items left by family and loved ones. I had been to the Wall previously, but it didn't affect me as much because there wasn't anything there, and also I didn't have a very good understanding of what it all really meant. So I would like to thank you for giving me the most important gift you could ever give, my Grandpa. I love him more than anything, and always will. I wish you were alive now to see how much he means to me. I will always remember you and you will always be in my heart. Thank You.

 

A Note from The Virtual Wall On 12 April 1963, a C-123 Provider (tail number 56-4380) crashed on take-off from the still-under-construction airfield at Nakon Phanom, Thailand, killing the three crewmen and two Thai civilians on the ground. While the aircraft and the two pilots were assigned to the 777th Troop Carrier Squadron temporarily based at Don Muang Airfield, Bangkok, the US Air Force casualty list indicates Staff Sergeant Truesdale was assigned to the 776th Troop Carrier Squadron. The three men were 1LT Raymond E. Doyle, Merion, PA, 777th TCS 1LT Richard L. Hatlestad, Sepulveda, CA, 777th TCS SSGT Stanley E. Truesdale, San Diego, CA, 776th TCS
