According to the Texas birth records for Jim Wells County, Alberto's parents were Alberto and Lenor Rios Vasquez.

2 South Texans Killed in Vietnam

Two South Texans were reported killed in Vietnam by the Defense Department.

Killed in action were Army WO1 Allan E. Stahlstrom, 21, of Portland and Spec. 4 Alberto Vasquez Jr., 20, of Orange Grove.

Vasquez had been listed as missing in action May 12 but his body was found and identified Wednesday.

Vasquez was a 1966 graduate of Orange Grove High School and had been in the Army one year. He was a lifelong resident of Orange Grove.

Surviving Vasquez besides his parents are four brothers, Fermin and Tomas Vasquez, both of Corpus Christi, Jesus Vasquez of Alice and Raul Vasquez of Austin; one sister, Mrs. Herminia Esparza of Houston; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Maria L. Rios of Orange Grove.

Funeral arrangements for Vasquez will be announced by Walker-Mora Funeral Home of Alice.

We called him "Junior". He was one of my favorite cousins ... he was so funny, was alway ready to make someone laugh. He use to put sponge curlers in his hair just to make us laugh. We all miss him and I do remember him because his birthday was a day before mine.
