Robert W. Whitney

Although Bob was five years younger than me, we grew up together as next door neighbors since there weren't that many others on our block his age. He left for Vietnam about four months before I did and was killed in action only a month into his tour. He was a good friend and I think of him all of the time.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Delta 1/7 Marines lost six men on 16 Feb 1969 while assaulting a large North Vietnamese Army force in a well-entrenched position in Quang Nam Province: PFC Robert Whitney was the only man from Riverdale, Illinois, to die in Vietnam.
