From the book of Romans in the Bible...
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual acts of Worship."
Romans 12:1
Corporal Jerry Wayne Wickam gave the supreme sacrifice to his country in a very far away place, for the freedoms we breathe so unassumingly every day.

May Jerry's ultimate sacrifice never be forgotten by our country!!

The Wall of Names

Every name someone's son.
A mother's child, a father's boy, a sister's brother.
A woman's husband, a daughter's father, a young girl's lover.
Every name someone's son.
Leaving home to fight the fight,
Protecting those they loved and all that's right.
They died away on foreign ground,
Away from family and the comfort there in found.
Everyone for whom they died,
Was filled with mourning, but also pride.
And so they build a marvelous wall.
A monument five hundred feet long and ten feet tall.
Inscribed upon the granite face,
Was each man's name, single-spaced.
All names of men killed in our country's service,
Every name was someone's son.
Forever honored and remembered,
On the Wall of Names.

From a high school student ..
I wrote this after visiting the "Traveling Wall" memorial.

Hello, Jerry was my Great Uncle. I did not know him personally, but yet I do. I have heard stories of him from my great grandmother and my grampa (his brother) and I love him and feel his presence when I need strength, because all I ever hear about is how much of it he had. I believe he is my angel or leader. I do however want to know more about him. Did you work with him, fight by his side, know him from school? If so please e-mail me at Nikkilynn2311@yahoo.com . If you don't really know him please don't write, I want to know about my uncle, and not play guessing games as to whether it's true or not.

From his Great Niece,
Nicole Wickam

posthumously to

JERRY WAYNE WICKAM
Corporal
United States Army

for service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. CPL Wickam, distinguished himself while serving with Troop F. Troop F was conducting a reconnaissance in force mission southwest of Loc Ninh when the lead element of the friendly force was subjected to a heavy barrage of rocket, automatic weapons, and small arms fire from a well concealed enemy bunker complex. Disregarding the intense fire, CPL Wickam leaped from his armored vehicle and assaulted one of the enemy bunkers and threw a grenade into it, killing two enemy soldiers. He moved into the bunker, and with the aid of another soldier, began to remove the body of one Viet Cong when he detected the sound of an enemy grenade being charged. CPL Wickam warned his comrade and physically pushed him away from the grenade thus protecting him from the force of the blast. When a second Viet Cong bunker was discovered, he ran through a hail of enemy fire to deliver deadly fire into the bunker, killing one enemy soldier. He also captured one Viet Cong who later provided valuable information on enemy activity in the Loc Ninh area. After the patrol withdrew and an air strike was conducted, CPL Wickam led his men back to evaluate the success of the strike. They were immediately attacked again by enemy fire. Without hesitation, he charged the bunker from which the fire was being directed, enabling the remainder of his men to seek cover. He threw a grenade inside of the enemy's position killing two Viet Cong and destroying the bunker. Moments later he was mortally wounded by enemy fire. CPL Wickam's extraordinary heroism at the cost of his life were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the U.S. Army.
