We went to high school together. I always remembered you for always making others laugh, for being such a good friend, for making everyone's day a little brighter, for just being you. You Were everyone's friend. You always tried to make others happy. You were loved by everyone who knew you. You had a heart of gold.

I remember you in art class, I remember drawing your fire prevention poster. I drew one for you and one for me. Yours won!!!! ... and you teased me about that forever!!

I remember when you went to serve our country and how we were all so proud of you, but also so very scared. We were just kids then.

I remember hearing the terrible news ... I remember seeing you in full dress uniform, the long long line to get in to see you, so many people crying, I remember ... I always will. May God Bless you, Richard, and cradle you in his arms.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

In one of the terrible accidents of war, four Marines from A Company, 1/3rd Marines, were killed in a "blue on blue" engagement. At about 10 PM 28 Feb 1966 the 2nd and 3rd Platoons of Alpha 1/3 each sent out a squad to set ambushes at predesignated locations. Unfortunately, one squad lost its way in the darkness and encountered the other squad. Both squads believed they had encountered an enemy patrol and opened fire. The four men killed in the engagement were
  • Sgt Patrick J. Kelly, Dorchester, MA
  • LCpl Richard J. Wolcheski, East Haven, CT
  • Pvt James F. Hubisz, Salem, MA
  • Pfc Franklin D. Gilbert, Orange, TX
