Ray is remembered by the Big Spring, Texas, Vietnam Memorial and also by the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial located in Midland, Texas.

Raymond was a sniper with his company. He was killed when he was setting a Claymore mine in front of a night laager position. The Claymore denotated. No one know who set it off. He is buried in the Mount Oliver Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas.
