A Note from The Virtual Wall

Very little is known about the loss of UH-2B BuNo 150162, other than the fact that LTJG Zerbe was the only crewman killed and that his body was lost at sea. Another KITTY HAWK crewman, Seaman Apprentice David J. Underhill assigned to Fighter Squadron 213, died in an aircraft-related accident the same day, but The Virtual Wall cannot determine if the two men were involved in the same incident. The HC-1 Command History for 1966 does not provide any amplifying information:
"On 15 Apr 1966, HC-1 detachment "C" on the USS KITTY HAWK (CVA 63) lost one of their UH-2B helicopters (BUNO 150162). The pilot, LTJG ZERBE, was lost but the remainder of the crew was rescued. The accident report was HC-1 DET "C" AAR 1-66A of 15 Apr 66."
