A memorial from his son, |
A Note from The Virtual WallCaptain Hemmel, a 1963 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, was flying an F-100 Super Sabre (tail number 56-2965) on a close air support mission about 30 miles southeast of Danang near the coastal town of Thanh Binh. After making a run on the target, his aircraft proceeded over the coastline and went down at sea due east of Tam Ky. No signs of ejection were noted and it was thought he had been hit by ground fired and wounded or killed. His remains have not been repatriated. |
