You will live as long as we remember. You had taken my place in the bush and died needlessly like all the rest. I never met you but I know you were a good soldier from talking to others. Sorry I was not there that morning you died. Maybe things would have turned out differently.

Dear John,
My 15 year search for your family has ended. I made contact with your Aunt Louise last month and she in turn contacted your Mother. I told them how and why you died that morning and they are now at peace knowing the final chapter of your life. I want you to know they love you very much and miss you terribly still and that your younger brother cried when he read one of my letters. You will live as long as we remember...

A Note from The Virtual Wall

The 4th Bn, 3rd Infantry radio logs tell us that enemy fire on 13 Oct 1969 cost the lives of two soldiers from Delta Company - CPL John T. Baker was killed outright, while SGT Dale F. Olmstead of Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota, died from his injuries on 21 Oct 1969.
