Tony Bellamy was my friend and roommate at the University of Idaho where he graduated in 1961. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the Army. Tony was killed in the "Mini-Tet" Offensive of late Spring 1968.
From a friend, |
Tony Bellamy was my MACV team leader for only a short period of time. The 6th ARVN Cavalry, of which Bellamy was the senior advisor, had been very successful in the previous six months or more against both VC and NVA forces. During Tet 68 the squadron was instrumental in the defeat of VC/NVA forces attacking My Tho. In late April 68 the squadron virtually annihilated a VC Battalion near Go Cong. The squadron advisors were under a threat of retaliation by the VC in Dinh Toung Province. On 5 May 68 a sapper team assaulted The Armor House and gained entry to a portion of the building. Bellamy died trying to assist other members, included SSG Dammer, who were trapped on the opposite side of the building by incoming RPG fire and a ground assault. Bellamy was an outstanding leader and would have risen high had he survived.
Ken Lord, 2/6 Cav advisor 67-68. |
