SFC Brooks died from gunshot wound to the chest and is buried in Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida. He was survived by his wife Mary Brooks Hargrove Rothe (1942 - 2013), daughter Donna K, and son Terry L Brooks of Baggett Courts, Pensacola. He was also survived by his mother Wille T. Salter, Cottage Hill, Florida and his father Gray J Brooks, Niagara Falls New York.
