Jerry was the first boy to let me wear his football jacket.
I was in the 7th grade.

My Dad was instrumental in having the Vietnam Memorial built in Saline County.
When I saw Jerry's name, it broke my heart.
I still see him smiling, wearing his Bulldog letterman's jacket.

Jerry Cantrell was my cousin. We were just two months apart in age, and we grew up together in a small rural community near Benton, Arkansas.

I attended Jerry's funeral in 1969, and it was one of the saddest days of my life. He was buried at Gravel Hill Cemetery, which is located on Highway 9 South in Saline County, Arkansas, near his boyhood home.

Jerry was a dear, sweet young man. I think of him often, and I miss him.

From a cousin,
Donna L. Taylor
