Memorial Day 2003 I was only 9 years old when Freddie was first listed as Missing in Action. I have vivid memories of that day, May 14 1969, when the taxi pulled up to our front door, and the Chaplain came to the door. And then the next 6 days, our local minister, friends and family, all at our house. Then the notice Freddie was Killed in Action. I am now 42, but think of Freddie often, and wonder how it would have been with a "big brother" still in my life. My brother is my Hero. Doug Coffman coffman3@hardynet.com

A Note from The Virtual Wall In early May 1969, major elements of the North Vietnamese Army's 2nd Division moved into the area west of the 46th Infantry's home base at Landing Zone Professional in southern Quang Tin Province. On 14 May, elements of the 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry, were engaged in heavy battle by 2nd NVA Division troops about 7 kilometers south-southeast of Tien Phuoc. At day's end, fourteen men had been killed in action. Most of them could not be recovered until 22 May, when the NVA troops had been forced from the area of the battle.
