I bought his bracelet at the Vietnam Memorial when I was 15 or 16. That's been about 12 years ago now. I wear it every day.

Notes from The Virtual Wall

John W. Consolvo, Jr. graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1966 and took his commission in the Marine Corps. He flew over 150 combat missions on his first tour of Vietnam and was on his second tour when he was shot down on 07 May 1972.

Captain Consolvo and his Radar Intercept Officer, CWO James J. Castonguay, were flying out of Da Nang when his aircraft, F-4J BuNo 155576, was hit by ground fire as he pulled off target. He flew the aircraft about 18 miles to a safer bail-out area before the aircraft became uncontrollable. Castonguay ejected and was rescued. Consolvo was not seen to leave the aircraft, which crashed some 3 to 4 miles from where Castonguay landed.

On 22 October 1974, the Secretary of the Navy approved a Presumptive Finding of Death and Captain Consolvo's status was changed from "Missing in Action" to "Killed in Action, Body not Recovered". As of 15 Oct 2005 his remains have not been repatriated.
