A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 29 August 1967 Golf and Hotel Companies, 2/9 Marines, were conducting a south-to-north sweep about 5 kilometers due east of the Con Thien artillery position. At 1300 a platoon from Hotel 2/9 engaged an entrenched NVA force and lost one man killed while digging the NVA troops out. The sweep continued north in the face of sniper fire, losing a second man to a sniper at 1550. The two Hotel 2/9 Marines killed in the engagements were SSgt George E. Cahill of Rochester, New Hampshire, and Sgt Rutilio P. Cordova of Denver, Colorado.
