10 Oct 2006 Anthony Curci and I went to USMC boot camp together at the Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Ca. We were both Marines in Platoon 2218, Second Battalion. We commenced training on 11 Dec 1967 and we graduated on 5 Feb 1968. LCpl Anthony Boy Curci was born on May 31, 1949, Riverside, California and died in Viet Nam on March 2, 1969. He was only 19 years old. By his courage and unwavering devotion to duty, LCpl Curci upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps. He gallantly gave his life for his country. A Note from The Virtual Wall The 2nd Bn, 1st Marines lost five men on 02 March 1969: H&S Co, 2nd Bn, 1st Marines: LCpl Anthony B. Curci, Riverside, CA LCpl Frank P. Evangelista, Flushing, NY HN Douglas F. Menard, Denver, CO Pfc David L. Guillen, Gardena, CA H Co, 2nd Bn, 1st Marines: Pfc Clyde W. Ganzy, Jacksonville, FL According to the 2/1 Command Chronology and Operations Log, the four men from H&S Company were killed when their Jeep hit a mine: "At 021000H a 2/1 motor patrol, while providing security for the Binh Ky road sweep, detonated an 80 pound pressure type box mine resulting in three USMC and one USN KIA." Pfc Ganzy was a member of a night ambush squad. After settling in, the squad had reason to believe their position had been compromised. While moving to a new position the squad itself was ambushed, with one killed and four wounded.
