A Note from The Virtual Wall

At 0650 02 Nov 1970 a UH-1C gunship, tail number 66-15219, belonging to the 2nd Platoon, 191st AHC took off from the Rach Gia helo strip heading for the main airfield to refuel. After lift-off the Huey went into a right turn and leveled off at 500 feet. Immediately thereafter the main rotor system separated from the fuselage, which nosed over and crashed, exploding on impact. The trail gunship, which was immediately behind the lead aircraft, circled the impact point looking for survivors. The aircraft had been completely destroyed, killing all four crewmen:
