1LT Jimmie Cartwright died as a result of injuries incurred in aircraft accident. He was on a messsage pick up mission and pilot of 01F military aircraft which crashed on take off. He was posthumously promoted to grade of Captain.

CPT Cartwright was survived by his wife Barbara E. F. Cartwright, Bradford Arkansas; mother Ethel Hayes Cartwright (1900-1984), Mountainburg, Arkansas; brothers William Paul Cartwright (1917-2004), Herbert Cartwright (1930- ), and Robert Calvin Cartwright (1932-2003); sisters, Wanda Mae (Cartwright) Snelgrove (1921-2005), Margie (Cartwright) Rogers Hicks (1927- ), Susie Ellen (Cartwright) Grady (1934-2021), Ethel Jane (Cartwright) Bristow (1940- ), and Betty Jane (Cartwright) Lancaster (1942- )

He was preceded in death by his father, William Fred Cartwright (1892-1950). CPT Cartwright is buried in Little Rock National Cemetery, Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas
