Edward, I was a friend of yours in basic training at Fort Polk, La, in the summer of 1963. I used our basic training book and looked up your name on The Virtual Wall. I saw that you paid the supreme sacrifice for your country. This is to thank you and honor you for that. You and none of us who served, fought, were wounded or died there are guilty of anything. Our country called and we went. We served honorably as all of you on the Wall did. We grieve your passing and miss you. I don't know how many of us from our basic training group served in Vietnam, but you are the only one that gave his life in that War. We love all of you and thank you with all of our being for that. May God wrap you in His Loving Arms. I was at Cu Chi with the 25th Inf Div when you were there. You are fallen but not forgotten.
