I served with Joel and was with him when he was killed in action. I think of Joel often. God Bless.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

The 1/1 Marines Command Chronology for December 1969 contains the following SPOT report on the incident which killed LCpl Cook:
"A. UNIT: D.C. Charlie 3
B. BT OF INCIDENT: 231100H
D. INCIDENT: Unit moving south of 1/1 combat base. Man tripped 81mm SFD with pressure type firing device placed along trail. Results: one (01) USMC KIA and one (01) USMC WIA (priority medevac).

It seems likely the Marine wounded in the explosion described above was LCpl James E. Fore of Spencerville, Indiana, who died on 23 December of wounds received from a booby trap.
