22 Mar 2003 Curtis Lamar Duck was born March 6, 1947. He grew up in National City, California and graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1965. He used the name Lamar prior to service. However, in correspondence with a couple of service buddies of his, I believe that he used his given name during service. He is survived by two brothers, Robert and Eric, and his mother Irene. I met this man posthumously the day that I went looking for my mother's grave. As I looked at the names on the gravestones, I noticed some ducks sitting on two graves ahead of me. Both gravestones had the name "Curtis Lamar Duck". I took a picture and have paid my respects each time I visit. A Note from The Virtual Wall During the second week of February 1967 elements of the 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, were inserted into the far southwestern corner of Kontum Province in order to conduct area denial operations against NVA units operating along the Cambodian border. On 16 Feb, A/1/22 Infantry and C/2/8 Infantry separately engaged battalion-sized NVA forces. Although the US forces, supported by air and artillery, were able to hold their positions until relieved, there was a very high cost to the operation: 1st Bn, 22nd Infantry: 21 killed in action west of the Nam Sathey River 2nd Bn, 8th Infantry: 22 killed in action south of Landing Zone 501
