Harold was born in Pampa, Texas, and raised all over West Texas. He attended schools in Stanton, Deleon, Coahoma and Sweetwater. He was a member of the 1965 class of Sweetwater High School. He enlisted in the Army after high school and had re-enlisted in 1969. He was a radio antenna erector/repairman. He began his tour February 15, 1969 and was killed in an accident when he was electrocuted erecting an antenna at the Cu Chi Base Camp on January 20, 1970. He had three weeks left in-country at the time of the accident. He was buried with full military honors at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater, Texas. He was survived by his parents and his wife, Sharon of Sweetwater. He is remembered by his community and by the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Midland, Texas. May his sacrifice not be forgotten.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Although his gravestone clearly indicates Sergeant Darnell's middle name was spelled "Dail", all available official records use the spelling "Dale". In order to maintain consistency with Army records The Virtual Wall uses the "official" spelling.
