Richard A. Dexter grew up and graduated from Rutland (Vermont) High School in 1962. Dick attended Iowa State University for two years then transferred and graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO with a BS in Forestry.

He enlisted in the Navy while he was visiting Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs was the official home of record until 1989 when Senator James Jeffords from Vermont wrote to the Navy Department and requested a change. Coincidentally, Senator Jeffords had been the ranking Naval officer back in 1968 who came to tell my parent's of Dick's death.

From his brother,
Bob Dexter
