Boyce, or Larry as he preferred to be called, was from the oilfield town of Odessa in West Texas. He had re-upped and volunteered for a second tour in Vietnam. He had served over 2 years in Vietnam when he was shot by a Vietnamese national during an altercation.

Boyce is remembered for his service and for the ultimate sacrifice of his life. He is remembered by his community and his name is enshrined on the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial located at the Midland International Airport, Midland, Texas.
