A Note from The Virtual WallThe 27th Marines' Command Chronology for March 1968 contains the following entry for the 16th:2 USMC embarked in a boat to inspect bridge pilings and the banks of the river within the [unit's] perimeter. [They] exited the perimeter at 161515H. Platoon Commander knew men were missing at 1530 and sent USMC patrol to search area along west bank at 1600. Platoon returned with negative results at 1700. A 15 man USMC/ARVN patrol [was] sent down west bank of river at 1730 and swept area. Returned to bridge at 2200. A two-squad sized patrol was diverted at 1900 to sweep east bank of river. They secured at 2100.The two men, Pfc David W. Erickson of Minneapolis, MN, and Pfc Edward L. Krausman of Burbank, CA, were carried as Missing in Action, and promoted while in that status, until the Secretary of the Navy approved Presumptive Findings of death on 02/25/1976 and 11/28/1975 respectively. Their bodies were never recovered. Fox 2/27 lost a third man on 16 March - LCpl James B. Farmer of Bristol, Virginia, was killed by a booby trap. |
