I did not know Mike, but he was killed along with my cousin CPT Larry P. Stotler, Evansville, IN, and MSG Evans S. Walker, Blacksburg, SC. There is a wonderful page about Mike that was written by his classmates on the Arlington Cemetery site. From what I have read, I am sure he was a wonderful soldier and friend to Larry, and I know he is missed.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Three men were killed when their jeep hit a mine on 16 Oct 1967:
  • MAJ Michael F. Field, Arlington, VA, 1/9 Cavalry Staff Officer;
  • CPT Larry P. Stotler, Evansville, IN, "D" Troop Commander; and
  • MSG Evans S. Walker, Blacksburg, SC, "D" Troop First Sergeant.
Major Field was a member of the West Point Class of 1960. He had completed Airborne and Ranger training; was a senior parachutist; and was dual-rated in fixed and rotary wing aircraft. During his first tour in Vietnam he flew as an observation pilot in O-1 "Birddog" aircraft. He was buried on 24 October 1967 in Site 13132-C, Section 13, Arlington National Cemetery.
