Sergeant Don Fujimoto and I went through Special Forces training together. We were close friends. During one of the last stages of SF medical training Don failed a test and was scheduled for re-cycle to another class. He was impatient with the long and arduous training and he instead volunteered for Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne.

Don was a combat medic and was killed while treating wounded troopers shortly after arriving in Vietnam.

On this memorial day May 29, 2006, 38 years after Donald was taken from us, his supreme sacrifice for his family and his country is still felt very deeply. Donald was such a kind, gentle brother who lived every day of his short life with honor, strong conviction and great courage. I dearly miss his comforting, supportive presence as we were growing up together and will forever cherish his memory.
