A Note from The Virtual Wall

SP4 Thomas V. Feldhaus received severe burns and other injuries when OH-6A serial 68-17231 was shot down approximately 10 kilometers northeast of Lai Khe airfield on 20 Oct 1969. He was medevaced out of South Vietnam, and died from his injuries on 21 Oct 1969 while en route to an Army medical facility in Japan.

Through administrative error, SP4 Feldhaus's death was attributed to non-hostile causes. About forty years afterwards, his family sought review of that attribution, and on 12 Dec 2012 the Secretary of the Army determined that SP4 Feldhaus's death was the result of hostile action, reversed the previous finding, and approved award of the Purple Heart Medal.

SP4 Feldhaus is buried in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley, Colorado.
