15 Aug 2002 I knew Barry at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was one of 23 lieutenants in the 3rd of the 25th Artillery, a target acquisition battallion (TAB). The battery was authorized something like 3 lieutenants, but it was used as a place to keep these guys before they went to Vietnam as forward observers. I was the battery clerk at the time. I remember that we had only 19 privates, four fewer than lieutenants. We all joked that the life span of a forward observer was about 15 minutes. Well, Barry lasted 33 days in 'Nam. I was on the DMZ myself when I got a letter from a buddy telling me that Barry had been killed. I couldn't believe it. I remember him as a warm, caring, extremely good-looking guy -- a guy who had no business in the war business. I still have a polaroid I took of him in 1968. I'll try to find a scanner and post it. 21 Dec 2004 Barry and I were like brothers. I was the older one. We played in the same Drum Corps (Long Island City Post, VFW 2348) Long Island City Saints. We lived around the corner from each other, grew up together and went to church together. It's taken me years before I could make this small note of gratitude for knowing him. Notes from The Virtual Wall While absolute proof is lacking, there is strong evidence that 1LT Fisk was serving as an artillery Forward Observer with Company D, 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry, at the time of his death. Barry Kevin Fisk, First Lieutenant, United States Army Reserve, was buried on 08 Oct 1968 in Site 2118, Section "L", Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.
