I count myself lucky to have known Richard Friend. He was always upbeat, positive, and quick with a smile or laugh. He made the long weeks of training before we left for Viet Nam tolerable. I would always be glad to have him come by end of the day to sit, talk and laugh. He will always be one of my best buddies.
This picture was taken during training at Fort Benning prior to our unit going to Vietnam with the 101st Airborne. From left to right is Bechler, Skip Beattie, Richard Friend, and me.
