Robert Wayne Gardner was on his second tour with the 281st AHC. As the aircraft commander of UH-1H 66-00870 he was shot down near Pleiuk, South Vietnam. Lost in the same crash incident were WO Stanley J. Miller, Jr. pilot, and the aircraft crew chief SP5 George William Tom.

WO Gardner was adopted by Jeff Murray of the 281st AHC Association who is developing his "Book of Remembrance" for the 281st AHC web site.
