A Note from The Virtual Wall

Four men from the 335th AHC died when their UH-1H HUEY (hull number 67-17354) went down:
  • 1LT Harry Hutchison Gibson, pilot;
  • WO1 Robert Allen Baetzel, copilot;
  • SGT Ted Douglas Mills, crew chief; and
  • SP4 Albert Otto Krausser, gunner.
The aircraft had been one in a flight of eight which encountered a cloud deck shortly after a pre-dawn take-off from Blackhorse Heliport northeast of Saigon. While seven successfully made it through the unexpected instrument conditions, 67-17354 collided with a hillside while banking out of the clouds.
