04 Mar 2007 REMEMBERING CHARLES Charles Melvin Goude was born May 10, 1936 in Camden, SC. The fifth of six children of Louie Melvin Goude and Olivia Russell Goude, he joined the Army at age sixteen. The last place he called home was Fort Mill, SC where he was laid to rest. He left Fort Hood, Texas on May 14, 1966 with the 53rd Signal Battalion, arrived in Vietnam on June 4, and was stationed at Long Binh where he was a Sergeant in Company "A". He was transferred to the 1st Infantry Division on September 22, and was killed in action on November 12, 1966 while on an operation near Tay Ninh with his unit, HHC, 1st Bn, 2nd Inf, during Operation Attleboro. His mother preceded him in death. He left behind his father and step-mother, two sisters, Cora and Jean, three brothers, Billy, Bobby and Gilbert, three nieces, six nephews, and me, the girl he was going to marry when he came home. He was a wonderful guy with a great sense of humor and a big smile that I still see when I think of him. He loved his family, and he loved me. He will always be missed, but he left us many happy memories. A Note from The Virtual Wall On 12 November 1966 Headquarters Company, 1/2 Infantry, lost three men: SSG Eduardo Guzman-Lugo, Barranquitas, PR; SGT Kent P. Furphy, Amarillo, TX; and CPL Charles M. Goude, Fort Mill, SC (Bronze Star "V").
