Jon was born in Corsicana, Texas, the son of (Maj-D) Hall W. Grimmett and Marjorie Santos Grimmett. Most of his short life he lived in Texas, Massachussets and North Carolina where his wife, family, and friends loved and now miss him so much. He was a good man who was killed fighting for his country with A/1/327 Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. Jon was a squad leader in 1st platoon and probably unfortunately a machine gunner also. He was killed trying to provide supporting fire from a flank position while the remainder of the platoon tried to support the lead platoon that was ambushed and was receiving heavy casualties. Jon's squad was also ambushed and he was mortally wounded. His body was unable to be recovered until the following day. The account of that day is contained in the book "The Offering". Jon's body is buried in Martha's Vineyard, MA.

Jon was only 20 months younger than me, his only sister. We had a wonderful childhood, I thank God for giving me those memories of Jon. Our father had been in WWII and was Jon's and my "hero", thanks to our Grandmother's stories of him. Dad was also in Special Forces and was in-country the same time Jon was, but they never got to see each other. I miss Jon and regret that my children were never able to know their uncle. I married someone in the Army (who was wounded in VN), our brother Hall had an Army career as well. Jon wanted to get out after serving his time and live with his new wife, Renee, in Texas - the state he was SO proud to be born in! Our youngest brother Barry was 15 years younger than Jon, he also regrets not being able to remember him more. One day we will all be together again with our Lord and Savior and never have to parted again!!

Jon, Loren "Beedy" Story, and I were close comrades of the brotherhood. We had plans after VN to start a business in Texas. There was great loss in losing Jon at that time. I feel so honored to have had Jon in my life even if for such a short period of time. I went through survivor guilt for not being able to save him. I was one of the men who recovered Jon's body the day he got killed.I learned so much regarding my own spirituality and positive influence. I had tremendous respect for this fine man. I recently was able to make contact with his immediate family. I want them to know that Jon is not forgotten and will always be with me.
