01 Mar 2004 Phillip was from the oilfields of West Texas. He lived in Odessa prior to being drafted in the U. S. Army. Phillip is honored by the Ector County, Texas, Memorial at the courthouse and also by the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial located at Midland International Airport, Midland, Texas. May his sacrifice never be forgotten. 15 Dec 2005 Philip is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Midland, Texas. He was awarded a posthumous Purple Heart and Bronze Star. 20 Apr 2006 I remember him well. We used to sit and talk for hours and he would strum on a guitar. He is remembered by those he served with as well as by those who were at home. 20 Sep 2006 I was with Phillip the day he got hit. He was in 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company, not Delta. I miss him every day of my life. We called him "Chuck". He died on June 6, I969. In this instance, both the grave marker and the Central Identification Laboratory Hawaii database say D Company, 1/6 Infantry ... but both may well be wrong. It also is possible that Cpl Gardner had been in Delta and was transferred to Bravo in body but not in record.
