I personally never knew Gary, I am too young. Upon researching my family I was given this information. Although I did not know him, he would have been my cousin, and obviously is an American hero.

I would like to hear from anyone who served with my little brother Gary Hall. This is his older brother, Ron, I also served a tour in Vietnam.
From his brother, 28 Feb 2007 This is just to say that I miss Gary every day of my life. I also served in Vietnam before him so I know what he had to deal with. I wish that he never had to do me one better but he did. You see, he gave his life for his country and I didn't, so he really outdid me this time. That is the way it is and I have to live with it. I MISS HIM SO MUCH. May we be together again up yonder.

A Note from The Virtual WallThe 3/7 Marines' Command Chronology for August 1968 reports that Lima and Mike Companies encountered the 1st Battalion, 36th NVA Regiment, while moving into a blocking position at Phong Thu (1), about 5 kilometers east of Dai Loc. The NVA troops were well dug in and resisted with enthusiasm. When the fighting ended, the NVA had been expelled, leaving 42 dead and 7 prisoners behind - but eight Marines and one sailor were dead:
